- Job Title: Health Promoter IEC Officer
- Work Location: Dagahaley Refugee camp, Dagahaley, Garissa County
- Duration: 12 months fixed term contract (with 3 months’ probation period) renewable based on performance
- Start Date: As soon as possible
The selected candidate will be reporting to the Health Promotion Supervisor, MSF Dagahaley Project. This position is only open to Kenyan nationals.
Main purpose
Implement Health Promotion IEC (Information, Education, Communication) activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.
Accountabilities
- Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.
- According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics.
- Implement activities of health education and awareness under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.
- Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.
- Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
- Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.
Context-Specific Accountabilities
- Support all the HP activities within the hospital
- Organizing health education sessions for ANC department and all discharges in IPDs
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding all information observed or registered
- In collaboration with Ward supervisor support counselling of all the refusals cases in IPDs for the continuity of the care
- Link all the patients for follow up with HP supervisors for home visits plan
- Ensure IEC Materials are available in all IPDs
- Prepare weekly report and submit
Requirements
- Education • Essential: Diploma in Social Science, social work or teaching
- Experience • Essential: At least 2 years working experience in health promotion activities or training/education activities
- Desirable: Successful previous experience with MSF in health promotion activities or training/education activities
- Languages • Proficiency in English, Somali and Kiswahili.
- Competencies • Results, teamwork, flexibility, commitment, and stress management
