Rationale/Objective for Position
The Internal Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive internal communication strategies to enhance staff engagement, align teams, and foster a culture of transparency and inclusivity. This role will manage multiple internal communication channels, ensuring that information is effectively shared across departments and teams with diverse backgrounds and geographies.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Fundraising, the post holder will work closely with the communications team and collaborate with all entities in MSF Eastern Africa.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Internal Communications Strategy:
Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals. Tailor communications to meet the needs of diverse teams across different regions and departments.
- Content Creation & Management:
Oversee the creation of engaging, clear, and consistent content for a variety of internal channels, including intranet, emails, newsletters, town halls, and digital signage. Ensure content reflects the organization’s values and priorities while maintaining engagement.
- Channel Management:
Manage and optimise a variety of internal communications channels (including Teams, SharePoint, email, video conferencing, and other digital tools). Ensure each channel is used effectively to foster collaboration and information sharing across the organization.
- Staff Engagement & Feedback:
Develop initiatives to engage staff across all levels, promote two-way communication, and foster a culture of feedback. Regularly assess and report on employee engagement and communication effectiveness through surveys, focus groups, and feedback mechanisms.
- Leadership Support:
Collaborate with senior leadership and departmental heads to craft messaging and ensure alignment on organisational initiatives, key projects, and strategic objectives. Assist in preparing leadership for internal communications, including speeches, presentations, and messaging for all-staff meetings.
- Crisis Communications:
Support the organisation during times of crisis or critical issues, ensuring effective, empathetic, and timely communication to staff. Manage crisis communication plans and responses as needed.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Build strong relationships with colleagues across different teams, including HR, Operations and Advocacy, to ensure communication is consistent, relevant, and impactful.
- Measurement & Reporting:
Track and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communication campaigns and channels. Use analytics and feedback to continuously improve the organisation’s communication strategy.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in internal communications, preferably in a non-profit, humanitarian, or healthcare setting, with experience working in a multi-entity or international environment.
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Expertise in using digital communication tools (, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, etc.) and content management systems (intranet platforms, newsletters, etc.).
- Ability to craft compelling, engaging content tailored to different audiences and communication needs.

What We Offer
- A 6 Months Fixed full-time employment contract through MSF East Africa Section Office in Nairobi, Kenya.
- An annual salary of EUR 27,145 at HQ Grade 8 based on a full-time appointment.
- Global benefit package; includes school fee benefit/support for dependents and other allowances ranging between EUR 620 - 1,159/month based on individual & administrative status.
- Other benefits include; 25 days of annual leave, Employer Pension contribution and medical insurance cover (staff and family) based on MSF EA terms/conditions.
