New Year babies: Meet the first MSF newborns of 2022

In the middle of humanitarian crises, hopeful mothers and MSF doctors and midwives are still welcoming new life into the world.  Meet some of the first babies born into our care in 2022 from our hospitals in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Yemen. 

Pakistan

Muhammad Ali was born at MSF’s maternity unit in District Headquarters Hospital, Dera Murad Jamali at 5:25 am on 1 January 2021. He weighed 2.6 kilograms. "I pray that my baby at this start of the new year to be a reason of happiness and blessings to the world and our family. I am not an educated person, but I will do my best to educate my son and make him a teacher," says his mother. 

 

Bangladesh

Mohammad was born  in the afternoon of  2 January in Bangladesh weighing over 3 kilograms. His parents dream that their baby becomes a doctor 

 

Yemen

Just after midnight at 12:04 am,  this little girl was born in Taiz , Yemen.  Her mother Omima  said, "I wish the war ends, and my child has a great, happy and safe life. One of my wishes is that my child becomes a doctor in future." 

 

Afghanistan

Marwa was born exactly at 12:00am on New Year's Day  in Helmand, Afghanistan. Her mother was happy to have delivered in the hospital. Mother and baby are both doing well.
