MSF teams have been celebrating Global Handwashing Day with communities in Omdurman, Khartoum state Sudan, this week.
Global Handwashing Day is marked every year on 15 of October. Our health promotion teams across Omdurman, Khartoum state have been hosting interactive events such as drawing, plays and outdoor events and Q&A sessions to highlight the importance of the handwashing. A big event including a play from volunteers has taken place in one of our projects sights in Nivasha open area on 18th of October. The theme of the day was ‘Lets give everyone a clean hand’
Health promotion activity was set to raise awareness and better understand the importance of hand hygiene in keeping you safe and healthy. The importance of handwashing has also increased drastically since the COVID-19 outbreak, with personal hygiene being critical to your overall health. Handwashing and personal hygiene is the key to prevent infections such as intestinal worms, Hepatitis A, E and others.
MSF encourages its patients and beneficiaries to use soap and clean water to wash their hands frequently, protect yourself, protect your family wash your hands with soap and water. The event centered local population, activists and community leaders of Nivasha.
Health promotion activities are a big part of MSF’s intervention in Omdurman, where MSF provides primary health care through mobile clinics in four locations as Nivasha open area, Nivasha camp, Block 48 and Hamashkoreb. MSF also supports Omdurman Teaching Hospital.
MSF teams across Sudan are conducting health promotion and awareness sessions with patients and the local communities.
