In 2024, millions of people continued to be affected by disease outbreaks, exclusion from healthcare, and crises such as wars, conflicts, and natural hazards in more than 75 countries. Sexual violence in Eastern DRC: A persistent emergency
The impact of sexual violence—which mainly affects women, including children—has long been known and documented. The number of men who are victims, although much lower, is also a cause for concern. Beyond the health and psychological impact, the social consequences are devastating: family and social rejection, stigma, divorce, suicidal thoughts, and immense difficulty for survivors to continue living in the locations where they were assaulted. Democratic Republic of Congo: After second staff member is shot dead in Masisi, MSF urges end to violence against civilians and aid workers
Since early 2025, MSF teams have witnessed violent incidents on an almost daily basis – and on a number of occasions have been the victims. DRC: Statement following the passing away of our colleague Jerry Kavali
It is with great sadness that we are sharing the news of the passing of our colleague, Jerry Muhindo Kavali, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He died today from the gunshot wound he suffered while at the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) base in Masisi town, North Kivu, during clashes between the VDP/Wazalendo and the M23/AFC on 20 February.
