About MSF Eastern Africa
MSF Eastern Africa is the regional institutional office of MSF. It focuses on representation and networking, recruiting and supporting staff from the region, communications and fundraising, as well as working on other dossiers of importance to MSF such as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DEI), Data Protection, mutualization, training, medical operational support, and environmental health.
Rationale/Objective for Position
The Training Officer is responsible for designing, delivering, and coordinating impactful learning programmes that strengthen staff capacity across MSF Eastern Africa, both at HQ and in the field. These include EDI & Safeguarding, Training of Trainers (ToT), soft skills development, and other emerging needs.
The role ensures training initiatives align with organisational priorities, foster professional growth, and promote a safe, inclusive, and effective workplace.
This position is hierarchically and functionally accountable to the Training & Learning Unit Lead, with a functional link to the EDI & Safeguarding Unit.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
General Training and Development

Design, develop, and deliver training programmes using adult learning principles and participatory approaches.

Create and adapt training materials, resources, and methodologies to meet learning objectives.

Facilitate engaging workshops and training sessions that strengthen staff capacity and confidence.

Support induction and onboarding programmes for new staff.
-
Conduct and contribute to Learning Needs Analyses (LNA) in collaboration with L&D, HR, managers, and staff.

Translate identified needs into targeted, practical training interventions.
-
Support the development and implementation of the annual training calendar.
-
Mentor and coach internal trainers and facilitators, building organisational training capacity.
-
Develop and apply tools to measure training effectiveness and learning impact, including follow-up evaluations.
-
Collect and analyse feedback to improve training programmes continuously.
-
Document and report on training activities, outcomes, and lessons learned.

Share best practices and contribute actively to MSF’s global learning and development community.

Ensure all training aligns with MSF policies, compliance standards, and organisational values.
EDI & Safeguarding Training
-
Work with the EDI & Safeguarding Unit to design and deliver training that promotes a strong EDI & safeguarding culture.

Develop and implement sensitisation tools and training strategies to prevent and detect abuse, neglect, and inappropriate behaviour.

Create and adapt EDI & safeguarding-related training content (in-person and online), including:

General awareness and capacity-building sessions

Train-the-trainer programmes for EDI/Safeguarding focal persons/champions

Ensure rollout and briefing of the Code of Conduct during staff onboarding.

Coordinate and validate an annual calendar of awareness-raising activities.
-
Regularly review and update training methodologies based on lessons learned and feedback.
-
Collect and analyse data on safeguarding training progress and propose evidence-based improvements.
Other Responsibilities
-
Recognize, respond, and document any form of abuse or inappropriate behavior and alert the safeguarding unit of any suspected potential abuse.

Proactively participate in the individual performance management process including objective setting, performance monitoring and performance evaluation.
Qualifications
Education:
-
A Bachelor's degree in Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Social Sciences, or related fields.
-
A Training of Trainers (ToT) qualification.
-
An Instructional Design qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience:
-
At least 5 years of experience in training facilitation, curriculum design, and organizational learning.

Experience in safeguarding and/or EDI/Anti-Racism training and awareness-building.
-
Demonstrated experience in delivering training in complex, multicultural organizations.
-
Familiarity with humanitarian or non-profit contexts, preferably MSF or a similar organization.

What We Offer

An open-ended full-time employment contract through MSF East Africa Section Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

An annual salary of EUR 23,296 at HQ Grade 7 based on a full-time appointment.

Social benefits package; allowances ranging between EUR 188 to 295/month based on individual & administrative status.

Other benefits include: 25 days of annual leave, employer pension contribution, and medical insurance cover (staff and family) based on MSF EA terms/conditions.
