Preventing and treating: MSF committed to tackling cholera in Chad

People’s late arrival despite being sick can be explained by two main factors. One is a lack of knowledge about the disease and its symptoms, which delays patients seeking out appropriate facilities; the other is inadequate health infrastructure in the host communities and difficulty in reaching these facilities, which is exacerbated during the rainy season. Nearly half of all deaths among cholera patients occur outside of healthcare facilities, and the death rate is six times2 higher than with the standard treatment.3 Article - 4 Oct 2025

People from the frontline areas arrive at the transit centre for IDPs in Dnipropetrovsk region (eastern Ukraine). They usually spend a few days here before moving further west. The Médecins Sans Frontières mobile clinic comes here twice a week. Our doctors and nurses examine patients. They often have chronic illnesses, and some of them arrive with injuries from the hostilities. Our health promoters and psychologists also work with patients to identify their needs and provide psychological support.

Bombed-out ghost towns and overcrowded shelters leave displaced people struggling in Ukraine

As thousands of people continue to flee from frontline areas, the Dnipropetrovsk region has now become a critical transit hub, leaving displacement shelters overcrowded. When the numbers of displaced people began to surge in July and August, one of the largest transit shelters was sheltering around 500 people per day, despite having space for just 140. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are working via mobile clinics in these shelters to provide medical consultations and psychological support, primarily to people who are elderly. Since April 2025, MSF teams have treated more than 1,400 patients, but we are witnessing a growing number of needs and increasing severity of cases. For this reason, we recently increased the frequency of visits and expanded medical assistance to additional locations where people are arriving. Article - 2 Oct 2025
