Closing the Dadaab refugee camps and pushing people to return to their home countries will lead to a far worse humanitarian crisis, some refugees currently living in the camps say, especially those who previously returned to Somalia but have come back to the camps because of pervasive violence and limited availability of basic services in that country. Central African Republic: Thousands left vulnerable in Bambari after makeshift camp is destroyed and burnt to ground
Bangui, 17 June 2021 – Some 8,500 people have been expelled from their makeshift camp in Bambari, Central African Republic (CAR) after renewed fighting broke out in the region, says international medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF). Several thousand people have sought refuge in the compound of a mosque in Bambari town where they are living in very precarious conditions. Renewed hope: Caring for deported migrants in Ethiopia
Each year, thousands of Ethiopians make the perilous journey to Saudi Arabia or other Gulf countries, with the false hope of finding work for fair pay. Those who make it to Saudia Arabia often face violence and mistreatment. Since 2017, Saudia Arabia has been detaining the undocumented migrants and deporting them back to their countries of origin. Mount Nyiragongo, a volcano in North Kivu province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), erupted on 22 May, leaving hundreds of thousands of people displaced, amid threats of new disasters. The tremors and aftershocks that terrorised the city of Goma, collapsing buildings, triggered a mass evacuation. Families who sought shelter in distant towns, such as Sake, Rutshuru and Minova, struggle to access the aid they so desperately need.
