MSF team relocates to Mattar to care for refugees fleeing violence on the South Sudan-Ethiopia border

Over the past weeks, Ethiopia’s Gambella region has been experiencing a dual emergency. More people are becoming infected by an expanding cholera outbreak in Wanthoa Woreda, coupled with the huge influx of refugees arriving because of intense fighting in South Sudan’s Upper Nile and Jonglei states. In the weeks leading up to the displacement, MSF had treated over 1,200 cholera patients and provided more than 3,000 outpatient consultations on the Ethiopian side of Burbeiye. Conflict in Sudan

Healthcare needs high in Khartoum, scale-up urgently needed

Over the past two years, MSF has had to suspend activities several times. In November and December 2024, violent incidents, including the killing of a patient in the hospital, led MSF to suspend temporarily. When armed men again entered the hospital in January 2025, MSF made the difficult decision to suspend all activity at the hospital. Article - 9 May 2025

MSF Hospital in Old Fangak Destroyed by Bombing
Attacks on medical care

South Sudan, Old Fangak: “I didn't think that this hospital was going to be bombed”

I am completely heartbroken by what has happened. The hospital had been there for more than 10 year sand was a lifeline to over 100,000 people in the area. Hospitals should never be the targets and I utterly condemn this bombing. It was a 35-bed hospital that had an outpatient department, inpatient wards, maternity – and we were able to refer severe cases to higher level facilities. Now, there is nothing left. Haiti: MSF trauma hospital in Port-au-Prince nears its limits

Having already increased its capacity by half, MSF's Tabarre hospital is under great pressure. With tensions high since February, the hospital is strained by the growing number of seriously injured people requiring treatment. Although the number of trauma beds is officially 50, the hospital regularly has over 70 trauma patients. Beyond the 75-patient limit, it will be virtually impossible to accept new cases.
