MSF Eastern Africa Media Fellowship 2025

The MSF Eastern Africa Media Fellowship was initiated in 2024. The fellowship aims to support journalists in the region to tell compelling and impactful stories about humanitarian issues that Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is responding to in the region.

Mozambique: MSF suspends activities in Mocímboa da Praia as violence surges

As of 26 September, MSF has suspended all medical activities in Mocímboa da Praia. Services were being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. They include the emergency room and maternity ward at the District Rural Hospital of Mocímboa da Praia, other lifesaving care at the facility and the referral system that enables patients with severe conditions to be transferred to other facilities. Mental health and psychosocial support as well as outreach activities run by community health workers in remote areas are also suspended. Some patients requiring specialised care have been referred to health facilities in Pemba and Mueda. Article - 26 Sep 2025

Lebanon one year on: Growing needs amid uncertainty

The war devastated Lebanese families, refugees and migrants alike. Lebanon is home to more than a million Syrian refugees, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, and many migrants who already live in precarious conditions. These communities were excluded from many relief efforts during the escalation, despite facing the same urgent needs for food, shelter and healthcare. The communities surrounding MSF Dagahaley Project has suffered significantly from this rainfall. More than 2700 people have relocated to 5 schools within Dagahaley, with many others taking shelter within their extended families in Dagahaley. In response, MSF launched an intervention to assist the thousands of people affected by the flooding in the County of Garissa with a specific focus on the needs of the communities in and around Dagahaley’s refugee camp.

MSF Homa Bay Project

Since 1987, MSF has been delivering life-saving medical services in Kenya,in Homa Bay MSF supports two adult medical wards (one male and one female) and the TB wards of Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital (HBCTRH) with human resources training, and mentorship of staff), designing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols,buffering medication to MoH pharmacy, laboratory support (point-of-care tests), and supporting blood donation campaigns.MSF has been providing diagnostic, treatment, and follow up care for patients with Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) at MSF run post-discharge clinic (PDC). Kaposi sarcoma is a cancer that primarily affects people with weakened immune systems, including those with AIDS.
